12 Days of Christmas Catch Up, Day 3: a Christmas quickie

This is going to be a quickie.

A couple of days ago I started watching "Pose," which I found to be absolutely incredible. From the casting to the execution. I want to watch a few more episodes before I really get into it, but I'm so glad that I added it to the Catch Up. Unfortunately "The Assassination of Gianni Versace" wasn't on my FX VIP pass, so that show won't be happening before I nominated for the Dorian Awards. These things sometimes take care of themselves.

Still hoping for "Ben is Back" to make its way to a theater near me, but it might fall off as well.

I decided to make a voluntary change to the list. Instead of "The Mule," I've decided to watch "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse." I need to see it before the hype gets the best of me. (Aka: "Paddington 2.")

Yesterday I also watched "Happy As Lazzaro," which for some reason I thought was an LGBTQ film. It's not. Once I figured this out, I almost stopped watching, not because it wasn't good, but because I could have replaced it with something else I had to take off the list. I'm glad I waited because it is un the running for my Top 20.

Yes, you heard me right. 20. Last year was the first time I've ever ranked my honorable mentions, and with the difficulty I'm having picking favorites, I will be doing the same again this year.

It's an interesting year. Right now there are movies that I love that may not even make a Top 20 list. But there is no film that I LOVE. I've said this already, but it is worth repeating. There are many great films this year, but for me there is no "Call Me By Your Name" or "Black Swan." There have been years I have gone a bit outside the norm, "Paranoid Park" and "Inherent Vice" come to mind. Could it be one of those years? Or will a big studio movie take the prize. A streaming service or a dot.com turned movie studio could take it as well.

Tomorrow I'll talk a bit more about what I've watched, but in the meantime, let's look at the list.

Paddington 2
Happy As Lazzaro

A Kid Like Jake
Vice
Three Identical Strangers
We the Animals
Vox Lux
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Mary Poppins Returns
Ben is Back
Free Solo
You Were Never Really Here
Colette
